I don't know about you, but I don't really feel like I have bounced back from Christmas!! I am sure that sounds pitiful....but it's true! On one hand, I have had a lot of changes since then....the main one being the schools where I am teaching. I think I am finally starting to get into my groove, though. And I am slowly learning more of the kids names. It is so difficult with 2 schools....so many kids! But next week I am starting to work on a program with 2nd grade and that always helps me to get to know them better. On the other hand though, I really haven't been any more busy that I usually am!
I feel pretty rested once I finally get myself out of bed...but by the end of the day I am worn out! Last night I decided it was time for me to reclaim my kitchen! I usually cook pretty often, but again...since Christmas I haven't cooked that much. I haven't been to the store in a while so I just had to go by what I had on hand. I have a recipe for Lasagna Rolls that I have really been wanting to try and luckily I had everything for it.....or so I thought! Ok...bare with me here....
I get the water going in the pot for the pasta. I always start that early because it takes a while to boil. In the meantime, I start making a bechemel sauce (which is like a thick white sauce...like Alfredo). I thought it said 4 T. of butter so I start melting it only to realize it said 2 T. So here i got fishing out some of the butter...fun! It was only the beginning. Then it says add 4 T. of flour and let cook for 3 minutes. Well, I thought that sounded kind of weird because it just seemed like too much flour. But I do it anyway...I'm not one to deviate from directions in the kitchen. The flour totally balled up in that 3 minutes. I thought that surely it would melt when I added the milk and brought it to a boil. Well....NO MILK!!! Ok ...ok I'll just use half and half...that will make it even better! I've done that before so no big deal. Only...I don't have quite enough...ok I'll mix in some whipping cream too!! LOL...this is going to be good! I pour it in and let it come to a boil. All the while....my pasta water is bubbling out of the pot!! All over the place! And splatting on me...yeah kind of hot! I go back to my sauce...and it is all lumpy! It basically looks like dough. I tried to save it...but there was nothing I could do. By this point, I got a little smarter about the pasta water...and to make an already long story not as long...I used a mug to start dipping out some of the water so it wouldn't keep boiling out...I have also burned myself a few times on the water!
So....I end up going over to the neighbors to borrow some milk. Classic line...Can I borrow some milk? (measuring cup in hand). Of course, they are so very nice that they let me have some...it was skim milk and the recipe called for whole...but at this point...at least 30 minutes since I started this whole mess...I didn't care what kind of milk it was! I started the sauce over, got the filling ready for the lasagna noodles....and actually all turned out well!! It was really a good dinner but it will be a while before I do that again! And I would make a few changes to the recipe.
Alright well sorry for such a long post! Now I've got to get some sleep!

OMG, that sounds like what would happen with me. I think that is why I let Danny do the cooking every night. Except when we are going to take dinner to someone at church and he is making one of my dishes, then I will cook. That is a whole other story that would be a good blog.
That's so funny! I can't deviate from a recipe. I have to do everything "by the book".
I can't imagine having to learn ALL of your students' names. I feel like life can go by so fast. I hope that things will slow down for you soon!
Sara. That's pretty funny. At least the lasagna rolls were worth it.
