Braces....blah!

So, if you didn't already know I was getting braces....I got them on this morning. I have begun the long road to hopefully ending my TMJ Disorder. I have been struggling with very bad headaches for about 2 years now. The plan is to have braces for about 2 years. After about a year and a half after having them on I will be having jaw surgery. That will be interesting!

Right now I am just trying to deal with the pain and eat what I can. I hope the soreness goes away soon. I have a long weekend coming up with school activities. I will keep you posted!

Lookin' forward to the weekend...

It's finally the weekend!! I am so excited because we don't have school on Monday so I get a long weekend. I don't really have any big plans so I'm just looking forward to being home. We do have a chance for some snow this weekend. We'll see what happens!

This whole week has just seemed really long. I mentioned in a previous post that I have two student teachers right now. Well, logic says that it would make things a lot easier BUT that's not necessarily the case. Now I just spend my time worrying that they won't teach my kids right! Don't undo everything I've done!! Overall, my kids have reacted pretty well to them. I have a guy and a girl working with me so that's neat. I think my guys are enjoying having another guy to sing with them and remind them that choir is cool =) He has been a lot of help and the kids respond to him very well. It's not exactly the same with the girl. It's not that she is doing a bad job- she's just kind of flighty!

Anyway- I met with their supervisor today to make sure I knew exactly what they needed to do and what paperwork they need to fill out. Since music teachers are certified P-12 they will have 3 placements- one in elementary, one in M.S. and one in H.S. That means that they don't stay in one place too long. That can be good and bad! They are with me for 3 more weeks. It's hard to manage 2 at one time (especially when you've never even just had one!). They each have to teach for a week straight. So, one gets next week and the other gets the week after that. Looks like I have two weeks of sitting there and watching them teach my kids!

Enough thinking about school!!! It's the weekend! Hope yours is great!

It Snowed!!

That's right...it snowed here today!!!! Ok- so i know you are now asking- yeah, but how much and did it stick? Well the answers to those questions are pretty obvious. It didn't snow much but it did snow for a couple of hours. And- no, it didn't stick. It isn't quite cold enough. But it was really pretty while it was snowing and it was pretty to see it on the ground for a little while!

In other news- I helped judge auditions for the school talent show this afternoon. Man, it can be rough. We do have a lot of talent at our school. I saw a lot of good dancers and singers BUT i saw some pretty bad ones too! Luckily, none of us take the Simon Cowell approach!

Open House

I got home not too long ago from our second open house of the year. This is the first time we have ever had an open house during the second semester. And let me just say...it will probably be the last time. I think we had a total of maybe 40 parents show up!!

At first, I thought we were having it for those who changed classes this semester but I found out it is because of all the new Smart Boards we have and the school district wants to show them off. I guess those 40 parents were impressed!!

I also finished a really good book tonight. I don't know if anybody watched the new TV series- Women's Murder Club. Well- I'm really into all those Law and Order and CSI shows. The Women's Murder Club is actually a series of books by James Patterson. He has other series out as well. Sometimes his writing is straight to the point and he says a few words I could do without here and there- Just like on TV so I wouldn't recommend it for all ages- But overall, a good book. There were a lot of turns in the plot that I did not expect. I plan on getting more in that series so I'll let you know!

On another note- I am feeling a little better today. I am not yet running at 100% though. I probably should have stayed home one more day like Aaron wanted me to, but it's hard when you're a teacher. I think my student teacher did a good job while i was gone, though. Oh yeah- so I actually have 2 student teachers right now!! I'll have to update you on that story on another post. It's kind of long.

Have a great night!

First Blog

Well, it has been so long since I have kept a blog! I think my last one was in college and I just didn't keep up very well. So, maybe this should be part of my New Year's Resolution! The great thing about this blog is that all my family members can read as well.

So, this past weekend was really rough and this week is not getting off to a much better start. Thursday night I left for Tuscaloosa for a Music Educators Convention. I drove through a lot of rain but luckily missed most of the storms. By Friday morning, I was not feeling so good. It just progressed through the day and by Friday night I had a very sore throat and a bad cough. Saturday I was supposed to stay for a concert but was way too sick. I drove home and immediately crashed on the couch. That is how I spend Sunday as well. In fact, I began running a fever Sunday night. We have absolutely amazing friends and they brought us dinner Saturday and Sunday night! It was wonderful.

Anyway, I did not go into work today. I have a student teacher right now so it was actually easier to make the decision to stay home because he could take over. Usually when I have to get a sub it is almost more of a hassle. Subs can't really run my choir. I am feeling better tonight but not 100% yet. I do plan on going to work if I can tomorrow. Aaron has been so great through all of this! He takes really good care of me!

I shouldn't be tired because I've been lazy all weekend, but being sick really takes it out of you! Goodnight guys!
