The funny things kids say....

Working at two elementary schools, I have heard and seen some pretty funny things. I always try to remember them and tell someone so I won't forget. I need to write a book! On Monday this week 1st grade (which I really think is my favorite!) was doing a Little Red Hen lesson. It's really cute cause I do a musical instrument version. Instead of her meeting a pig, dog and cat she meets a clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone and violin. Anyway, I started off my lesson by asking what ways we could help our friends and family. Of course, I got some really good first grade answers like...I could help my friend by taking care of them when they get hurt....or I could help my family by doing the chores. Well...that's when little Victoria spoke up (she is Asian and speaks kind of broken English but of course I think it is so cute! I know I'm not supposed to encourage that though). She proceeded to tell me that most of the time at home she does all the work. "Sometimes my mom helps me but sometimes she doesn't do anything." "Sometimes I help but sometimes I don't do anything." "But my dad, he never helps. He does nothing at all! My dad is SO LAZY!"

At that point, I could not help but laugh out loud!! All of the other kids started laughing too. Once I gained composure...I tried to continue talking about how it's good to help people and the moral of the story of the Little Red Hen. I love it when kids are totally truthful!
